Versailles is one of the most visited sites in France, with several million visitors each year. Both tourists and locals come to the château and gardens to experience the serenity and beauty it offers.
But Versailles is much more than château and gardens. It is a whole city, strictly organised to let nature and sunlight converge towards the château.
Now for the first time, a film shot from a drone, gives a bird’s-eye view of the organisation of the royal city as composed by Louis XIV and André Le Nôtre. From above, the ties between the town and the château become clear.
Ten months in the making, town officials are hoping that the video will go viral and continue to attract tourists. Since its release this week, it has recorded almost 75,000 hits on YouTube.
